Jerry Sullivan

Rev. Jerry Sullivan received the Holy Ghost, in March 1956 at New Hope Pentecostal Church in Shivers, MS, under Pastor Grady Marshall. He was baptized in Jesus’ Name at Lem Milis Creek in Simpson County.

In 1957, Rev. Sullivan at the age of 17, moved to Gulfport and attended Bro. and Sis. Singletary’s church for six months. In July 1957, he moved to Pascagoula and attended First Pentecostal Church, where Rev. Buford Miller was Pastor. It was in Pascagoula where he and Glenda James met and were married in 1958. Sis. Sullivan received the Holy Ghost and was baptized in Jesus Name in 1945, when she was 5 years old in Taylorsville, MS.

The Lord blessed their marriage with five children, Darlene, Ladale (deceased) Randy, Gwen, and Timothy. He started preaching in June 1969 and the two began evangelizing full-time in August 1969. On July 20, 1970, Rev. Sullivan was elected pastor of Pleasant Ridge UPC and served there for 32 years until February 2003.

In August 2003, the Sullivans founded Solid Rock Church from their living room on Quitman Lane, 5 miles West of Brookhaven. Six weeks later, they moved the church into a renovated tractor shed and held church services there for two years. During that time, a new sanctuary was constructed on Hwy 84. This building was home to Solid Rock for 10 years. The current sanctuary with a seating capacity of 350 was completed in October 2015. The former sanctuary is now used for a fellowship hall and children/youth ministry departments, with a kitchen and offices. The Sullivan’s sacrifices along with so many wonderful church members, leave all this property and facilities debt-free.

The Sullivan’s ministry has seen hundreds receive the Holy Ghost and baptized, many ministers accepting their calling. numerous weddings, baby dedications, funerals and countless sermons To God be the Glory!

In April 2022, the church elected Rev, Talor Strain as Pastor, and Pastor Sullivan transitioned to bishop. The future is bright for Solid Rock Pentecostal Church.
